Your reviews are the cheapest market research you will ever get

GuestEcho Team · July 4, 2026

Somewhere in your review history is the answer to most questions your management team argues about: whether the renovation was worth it, whether the new breakfast vendor is working out, what guests actually think the property is for.

The problem is form. A thousand reviews is a thousand anecdotes, and humans read anecdotes emotionally: the vicious one star sticks, the polite four star blurs. Turning anecdotes into decisions takes three habits.

Classify before you conclude

Tag every review by the topics it mentions. The moment "wifi" becomes a category with a count and an average rating instead of a vague sense of grumbling, the conversation changes from opinion to arithmetic. Modern language models classify at near human quality for a fraction of the old cost.

Track movement, not snapshots

A category's absolute score matters less than its direction after a change. New mattress supplier in March? Watch the "beds" category's positivity for the following quarter. It is the closest thing hospitality has to an A/B test.

Interrogate the corpus

The newest capability is the most underused: asking questions of your reviews in plain language and getting grounded, quoted answers. "What do business travellers complain about that leisure guests do not?" used to be a consulting engagement. Now it is a sentence typed into a box.

Properties that treat reviews as a dataset make renovation, staffing and vendor decisions with evidence their competitors are paying agencies to approximate. The data is free. It has been sitting in your listings all along.
